Sitting quietly in the light of my small Christmas tree on New Year’s Eve, I reflected on the year that was passing and the New Year to come. I thought of God’s faithfulness and the bountiful gifts He bestowed on me and my kids and their families. I also thought of the challenges and battles we faced and how God was there each step of the way. Upstairs, my beloved four year old granddaughter was sleeping and I thanked Abba for His blessings. A small still Voice whispered into my heart: “I’m making streams in the desert.”
I googled this verse and found it in Isaiah. “Behold, I will do a new thing, Now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness And rivers in the desert.” (43:19 NKJV)
The Message Version says it this way: "Be alert, be present. I’m about to do something brand-new. It’s bursting out! Don’t you see it? There it is! I’m making a road through the desert, rives in the badlands.” Isaiah 43:19
So what does this mean? I’m not sure yet, but I do know that I’ll see it come to pass this year and in the years to come. The One Who loves me speaks Truth and Life into my heart on a regular basis. I look forward to what is coming because I trust in the One Who holds me close. Don’t be afraid, I’ve redeemed you. I’ve called you by name. You’re mine. When you’re in over your head, I’ll be there with you. When you’re in rough waters, you will not go down. When you’re between a rock and a hard place, it won’t be a dead end—Because I am God, your personal God, The Holy of Israel, your Savior. Isaiah 43: 2b-4a
God, my ROCK! I trust You completely. You are true to Your Word and You are the Source of Love. May many people be introduced to You through Jesus and the Holy Spirit. I’m looking forward to seeing what You have in store this year. Plus, I can’t wait to see what streams You’re making in the desert! Amen.
