This morning my granddaughter and I explored the woods. We ate wild strawberries. We checked out teeny tadpoles and big green frogs. We peered closely at bugs and named them. We smelled pink roses and topped the adventure off by swinging high in the air.
After all this excitement, we headed indoors to read a book. Emmie picked The Beginner’s Bible...her mommy’s Bible growing up. (Thanks Aunt Holly!)
We read The Giant:
The enemies of God’s people came out to fight. They sent their best fighter...Goliath. He was over 9 feet tall. The men in Saul’s army were afraid. They knew Goliath was stronger than they were. No one wanted to fight him. But... David visited his brothers... he got to see Goliath... and how everyone was afraid of him. “I will fight Goliath,” said David. “God will help me.” David chose five smooth stones from a stream. He took a sling in his hand. David called, “You come with a sword and a spear. But I come to you in the name of God. The battle is the Lord’s.” The stone hit Goliath right in his forehead. And Goliath fell down! DAVID TRUSTED GOD. GOD HELPED DAVID WIN. All the people were glad. (pgs 178-185)
Father, this is a season of giants in my life. You’ve gone ahead...like You always do...and conquered the giants. My job is to show up, trust You, and in faith; keep walking in the direction You reveal. Also, please help baby girl to grow in her trust of You... that she will slay the giants in her life. Amen.
That’s how David beat the Philistine—with a sling and a stone. He hit him and killed him. No sword for David! 1 Samuel 17:50
