Priorities

When I was younger, I believed I could be everything to everybody at all times. Obviously, I was mistaken!

As I’ve matured, I’ve learned that my priority should always be to please God first. This way of thinking has taken me longer to understand and apply because of my people-pleasing personality.

Matthew, one of the disciples, records Jesus saying, “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” (6:33) The God of this universe designed mankind to need Him more than anything (or anyone) else. In light of that, He gave us His Word and His Holy Spirit to guide and direct our path on a daily basis.

Father God, every day can be a challenge to seek You first. And yet, that is exactly the prescription You write for us to lead lives that glorify You, make a difference on this planet, and prepare us for eternity. I’ve found out the hard way that if I don’t put You first, things fall apart very quickly....and I end up losing my joy, peace, and patience. The more I get to know You, the more I realize how desperately I need Your wisdom and protection to navigate this life. Thank You for Your promises and for Your faithfulness. I love you. Amen

“there is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death” --Solomon (Proverbs 14:12)

“O LORD, I know the way of man is not in himself; it is not in man who walks to direct his own steps” --Jeremiah (10:23)
