Tattered and Torn

Watching the sunrise from our dock on Lake Seneca, I noticed our flag was tattered and torn. I pulled on the rope to bring the flag down, and thought about how real life circumstances can leave us feeling tattered and torn.

Life events like death, divorce, illness and aging can tear one’s spirit apart and make it very hard to repair the damage that’s been done.

Our heavenly Father knows this and has some excellent counsel in His Word.

“Have you not known? Have you not heard? the everlasting God, the Lord, The Creator of the ends of the earth, neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the weak, And to those who have no might, He increases strength....But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 40:27-29, 31

Father, in this life, we are guaranteed trials and suffering that often leave us tattered and torn. But, when we put our hope and trust in You alone, our suffering produces incredible, supernatural strength. You renew our spirit daily on the inside as we read, study and apply Your Word; with the Holy Spirit’s help. Help us to have faith in You; to trust Your Will and Sovereignty above all else. Amen.

“Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:16-18
