While my husband and I were in Arizona, a quail hit our window and fell to the ground. The Arizona quail is very common and looks like a partridge with a curled feather sticking out of the middle of its colorful forehead. As I picked it up to see if I could revive it, I thought of the Scripture in Matthew:
Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin?
And not one of them falls to the ground
apart from your Father’s will. (Matthew10:29)
Matthew goes on to record:
But the very hairs on your head are numbered.
Do not fear therefore;
you are of more value than many sparrows. (10:30-31)
Jesus was teaching that God providentially controls the timing and circumstances of such insignificant events as the death of a sparrow. Even the number of hairs on our heads is controlled by His sovereign will. (John MacArthur Study Bible p. 2030)
Father, You are Sovereign. You have supreme power and authority on earth and in heaven. It is incredible to me that you care about even the smallest details. Thank you. I rest in Your power and authority and perfect will. Amen.
“You are worthy, O Lord,
To receive glory and honor and power;
For you created all things,
And by Your will they exist
and were created.”
(Revelation 4:11)
