Hey God, What's the Deal?

Chip Ingram writes in his book, Overcoming Emotions that Destroy, that David laments to God in the Psalms.

“Hey God, what’s the deal? How come the wicked are prospering and I’m getting a raw deal? I don’t understand it, and I’m really upset. Hey God, my count is down, I’m ticked off. How long are you going to ignore my situation? How long are you going to let this go on? Where are you? What are you doing? This is unfair, God! Do you even care?” (Ingram, pg. 96)

Though David’s Psalms often start with pain, they usually end in praise. Because David keeps going back to God over and over again, he develops a closer relationship and deeper understanding of the God he serves.

“O God, Who could I turn to but you? You are my healer, my shield, my rock and my redeemer. I was just blowing off steam. I was just hurting and had been let down. I will praise you Lord for you are a great, loving, merciful God. Even though I don’t understand, I will trust in You.” (Ingram pg. 96)

But know that the Lord has set apart for Himself him who is godly; The Lord will hear when I call to Him. Be angry, and do not sin. Meditate within your heart on your bed, and be still.

Psalm 4:4

Father God, thank you for problems. Thank you for being a safe place to vent what we are really feeling. Thank you for listening and caring about every detail of our lives. Help me to understand Who You really are, not Who I think You are. Amen.

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:6-7
