So You Think You're Safe?

James MacDonald asks his listeners, “How comfortable are you with your religion? Are you willing to gamble with your salvation?”

The apostle Paul writes in 1 Thessalonians 5:2-5, “For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. For when they say, “Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman And they shall not escape. But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night or of darkness.” (NKJV)

Jesus taught that to believe in Him would remove a person from spiritual darkness. (John 8:12; 12:46) Believers will not experience the wrath of God because they are different in nature. Unbelievers are in darkness, engulfed in mental, moral and spiritual darkness because of sin and unbelief. (John 1:5, 3:19, 8:12. Ephesians 4:17-18; 5:8,11) (John MacArthur)

It is a fact that the world we live in will come to an end. Only God knows the date and time. It is also a fact that none of us get off this planet alive. So where do you put your faith? The media? The pastor? The priest? Your family? Your friends? Yourself? Oswald Chambers said, “If our trust is placed in human beings, we will end up despairing of everyone.”

For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. (2 Corinthians 4:6)

‘Father God, You created the universe and everything in it. I ask myself often if I know You as my Savior or as a thief in the night. You are Holy and righteous and perfectly just. And yet, You are also compassionate, merciful, and forgiving. Thank you for giving us Your Word to guide us while we live on this planet. Thank you for sending Your Son as THE bridge to a relationship with You. I don’t fear the future because You have it covered!!’

2 Peter 3:10, “But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.” (NKJV)
