Empire State Building

Standing 1250 feet above New York City, my daughter Jetts and I had a difficult time comprehending how the men in 1929-1930 built this incredible structure. The Empire State Building took 7,000,000 man hours to complete and up to 3,400 men worked on it at a time over a period of 401 days. The 360 degree views of New York City, the Hudson River and New Jersey are breathtaking; especially at night!

As the wind blew and the building gently swayed under our feet (yikes!), I saw something out of the corner of my eye. A tiny sparrow flitted high above our heads in the night sky without much effort. It was a startling reminder of the Power of God versus the power of man.

O Lord, Our Lord, how majestic is Your Name in all the earth!

When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have set in place, What is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?

Yet You have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor.

You have given him dominion over the works of Your Hands;

and have put all things under his feet, all sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field, the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea, whatever passes along the paths of the seas.

O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is Your Name in all the earth!

Psalm 8

“Father God, You made man in Your image and we are given incredible skills, gifts and abilities. This world is full of examples of the power of man; but, help us to remember Who gave us those those abilities. We can do nothing without Your permissive will. Help us to use what we’ve been given to honor and glorify Your Name, not our name. Amen.”
