Years ago, a Prego commercial touted its brand because all the ingredients needed to make the tomato sauce exceptionally good were in there.
The Bible also has all the ingredients needed to make it in this life and the next. “The Bible reveals the mind of God, the state of man, the way of salvation, the doom of sinners, and the happiness of believers.” (Author Unknown)
2 Timothy 2:15 says, “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of Truth.” (NKJV) The word “diligent” denotes zealous persistence, enthusiasm, and discipline in accomplishing this goal. (John MacArthur) We are to study God’s Word and “cut it straight,” by letting it say what it says, not what we or society think it should say.
How often we are fooled into thinking we must keep certain man made rules and regulations to be loved by God and to get into heaven. We have been sold the lie that somehow our works get us into heaven. John 14:6 clearly records that Jesus said, “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
Most of us find the time to watch television, read the newspaper, eat out with friends, spend time with family, or pursue a favorite hobby; and yet we rarely, if ever, take the time to open the Bible and read God’s letter to mankind. We pierce ourselves with sorrows over and over again, because we look for the answers to our problems everywhere but the Bible. Truth is painful and often pierces us to the very core of our being. But, when Truth is acknowledged and humbly accepted, it has the power to change us and change those around us. The Bible is the only “self help” book you will ever need. “IT’S IN THERE!!!”
Dear God, help me to take the time daily to read and study Your Word. In the Bible are all the answers to the questions that have been asked since the beginning of time. Help me understand You better and to be obedient to You and Your Word.
“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16 NKJV)
