Mother Nature?

December 20, 2017

The news person reported that a snow storm had blown into our area and to “watch out for Mother Nature!”  I thought about that statement while riding on the back of a 4 wheeler to plow snow with my husband.  The air was crisp and clean, leaving me a little breathless.  A red cardinal flitted in and out of the trees in front of us, contrasting brightly with the snow that glistened in the soft sunlight; illuminating the world around me.

So who is “mother nature”?  Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines mother nature as  “nature personified as a woman considered as the source and guiding force of creation.”

However, there is no such thing as “mother nature” in the Scriptures.  Any time nature is mentioned, God is given the glory or the blame, depending on the situation.

Genesis 1:1 In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.

Psalm 24:1 The earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness, The world and those who dwell therein.  For He has founded it upon the seas, And established it upon the waters.

Acts 17:24 God, Who made the world and everything in it, since He is the Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands.

Psalm 8:3 When I consider Your heavens, the works of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have ordained..

Father God, You created everything!  In Him (You) we live and move and have our being.. (Acts 17:28)  Thank You for the beauty and magnificence of Your creation.  Help us to give credit where credit is due!  Amen.

But He said to them, “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm.  So the men marveled, saying, “Who can this be, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?” Matthew 8:26-27
