“What is Love?”

My late husband, Joe, used to say with amazement and wonder, “How in the world

God loves us (mankind) the way He does is beyond me!” He knew firsthand how

unlovable people can be; how our sin nature separates us from God and His Love.

I didn’t understand this statement for many years because I lived in a religious world

steeped in man made rules and judgement against those not in our “circle.” As I’ve

grown closer to the Lord and understand my own nature and the nature of others, I

realize how truly amazing God’s love is.

1 John 3:1 says, “What marvelous love the Father has extended to us! Just look

at it--we’re called children of God! That’s who we really are. (MSG)

Romans 5:8 says, “but God clearly shows and proves His own Love for us, by the

fact that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (AMP)

Father God, Your love makes no sense. We humans did absolutely NOTHING to

deserve it. But, You love us anyways. “Love is giving a person what they need the

most when they deserve it the least at great personal cost.” (Chip Ingram) Your love

rescued me and continues showing me the way. You finish what You start. I love you

back with all of my heart. Amen.

None of this fazes us because Jesus loves us. I’m absolutely convinced that

nothing--nothing living or dead, angelic or demonic, today or tomorrow, high or

low, thinkable or unthinkable--absolutely nothing can get between us and God’s

love because of the way that Jesus our Master has embraced us.

Romans 8:38-39 (MSG)
