One day while on an extended solo road trip, I kept coming across the song, “One of Us.”The line Joan Osborne sings, “What if God was one of us” kept playing over and over in my head.I said out loud to the empty seat beside me, “But He was one of us!”Chuckling at my solitary outburst, I started thinking about what it cost God to become one of us.
God’s love for humans is so great that He sacrificed His own Son, Jesus, so that anyone, literally anyone, can bridge the gap between themselves and God by embracing what Jesus did on the cross and following Him with all of their hearts, souls, and minds.Jesus is a Brother to all who believe in Him.He is the Connection between humankind and our Creator.
The people living during Jesus’ time had to decide if Jesus was Who He said He was.There were three trains of thought then that still go on to this day.“Was Jesus good, evil, or insane?”This is a question every human being is compelled to answer.The answer has eternal and irrevocable outcomes.
C.S. Lewis sums it up like this: “We are faced then with a frightening alternative.The man we are talking about either was (and is) just what He said or else (insane) or something worse.Now it seems to me obvious that He was neither (insane) nor a fiend; and consequently, however strange and terrifying or unlikely it may seem, I have to accept the view that He was and is God.God has landed on this enemy-occupied world in human form.”
Father God, Creator of things seen and unseen, I worship You, Jesus, and Holy Spirit.As Job said, “I admit I once lived by rumors of you; now I have it all firsthand—from my own eyes and ears!”Job 42:5 MSG I don’t understand why You did what You did for me and all who believe in You; whose names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.That kind of Love is mind blowing, but I know it to be true because I experience that Love on a daily basis.You are the Son of God and man, the Bridegroom whose bride is the Church with a capital ‘C.’Not a church building or a denomination, or a set of man made rules and regulations; but persons all over the world who know You as their Friend and King.May Your Kingdom continue to come on earth as it already is in heaven!
