I’ll never forget the time when I had a big problem to solve and every solution I tried was not working. It was like trying to demolish a brick wall with my bare hands. I prayed about it, then decided to take a nap. When I awoke, the issue had been completely resolved...without my help! My faith grew as I marveled at the power and influence my heavenly Father has in and on this world.
Rest is very important in the Kingdom of God. “The prince of this world, our enemy, the devil, fights against our restfulness. Why? Because he knows how GOOD it is for us. He knows that rest connects us back to our Father, God. Rest helps us be more creative, taps us back into heaven’s perspective and allows us to feel wonderfully free.” Hancock, EMS (2018) “The Rest of Your Life.” River Publishers
Elijah (900 BC -849 BC) was told by God to go stand on a mountain and pay attention because God was going to pass by. A hurricane, an earthquake, and a fire occurred, but God wasn’t in any of these events. As Elijah waited, he finally heard a gentle and quiet whisper. God said, “So Elijah, now tell me, what are you doing here?”
1 Kings 19:11-13
O God, You’ve given me lots of energy and creativity. I’m passionate about the life I live and have a hard time shutting down. Even You rested when You created this planet. How arrogant of me to think that I don’t require rest daily. You have such a gentle way of showing me Who You really are and what You are capable of. You are the Supreme Boss of the universe. Not me. Help me to remember this fact and rest accordingly. Amen. If God doesn’t build a house, the builders only build shacks.
If God doesn’t guard a city, the night watchman might as well nap. It’s useless to rise early and go to bed late, and work your worried fingers to the bone. Don’t you know He enjoys giving rest to those He loves? Psalm 127:1-3
