My current work involves hospitality. Since this business hosts many groups of people, we go through vacuums at a brisk pace. This week, as my granddaughter helped me put together yet another Shark, I smiled, remembering my early years growing up.
My dad was and still is a cleaning machine. I vividly remember him lifting the lower edge of my twin bed to sweep underneath it at 6 a.m. on Saturday mornings. As I grew older, I was tasked with sweeping through the house on the weekends. My dad used to hide little pieces of string under furniture to make sure I swept those areas as well. I would laugh at his obsessive need for cleanliness but now find that I enjoy it almost as much as he does. Especially when it comes to sweeping floors.
What I’m continually observing is that God doesn’t let anything go to waste. He knew where I’d be in my fifties; managing Riverledge Farm and hosting hundreds of people over the course of a year. Cleaning floors is one of my tasks and I enjoy it immensely!
For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10 NIV
Abba/Daddy, thank You that my earthly dad loves to clean. I know everything You do is meticulously prepared and planned long before we were born. We can realize your dreams for us when we choose to follow Your lead. You continue to surprise and delight me with how my past experiences have prepared me in unique and wonderful ways to do the work You’ve given me during this season! Amen.
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. Colossians 3:23-24 NIV
