Lisa's Jars of Joy

My Friend

It’s nice to have friends. I’ve found deep and meaningful relationships with others where trust has been built up over many years. I know that when I pick up the phone to call a friend, it’s like no time has passed at all. We pick back up right where we left off.

I heard a message last week about a Friend Who, no matter what, will never abandon, betray, neglect, abuse, or forsake us. He sticks closer than a brother and His Love never fails. His Name is Jesus and He is fully vested in friendship with those who choose Him.

John records Jesus saying: I’ve told you these things for a purpose: that my joy might be your joy, and your joy wholly mature. This is my command: Love one another the way I loved you. This is the very best way to love. Put your life on the line for your friend. You are my friends when you do the things I command you. I’m no longer calling you servants because servants don’t understand what their master is thinking and planning. No, I’ve named you friend because I’ve let you in on everything I’ve heard from my Father. Verses 15:11-15 MSG

God, to think that You, the Creator of the seen and unseen Universe (Colossians 1:16), want to be a Friend with human beings is astounding! And yet, I know this to be true. You are my Friend (John 15:13). Even writing this sentence brings tears to my eyes. I know how You rescued me when humans couldn’t (Deuteronomy 31:6) and see what You continue to do in my life. I’ve found Your Love and Friendship. You stick closer than any brother or any human friend (Proverbs 18:24). You never physically leave or emotionally forsake me, no matter what (Deuteronomy 31:8). Thank you for being my Friend. And thank you for my human friends as well. Amen.

And so the Lord used to speak to Moses face to face, just as a man speaks to his friend. Exodus 33:11 AMP
