The other night while Emmie was getting tucked in her big girl bunkbed at Gigi’s house,
she asked to read five books before turning out the light. “Over, Rover,” I said as I
crawled into bed beside her. One of the books she picked out is called “God Gave Us
Easter,” written by Lisa Tawn Bergren. (2012)
“Do you talk to Jesus, Papa?”
“Every day,” Papa Bear said. “All day.”
“Does he talk back?”
“In a way. It’s like he whispers in my heart.”
“In your heart? I thought we listened with our ears.”
“We do, but to hear Jesus, it takes a special kind of listening.”
Little Cub was silent for the rest of the walk home. She was trying to listen with her
heart. She listened...And listened...And listened.
The next morning, Little Cub said, “Papa, I think I heard God last night.”
“You did? Well that’s the best Easter present ever! What’d he say?”
“I love you.”
Heavenly Father, I hear Abba tell me daily that He loves me in many different and
creative ways! The whole Bible is the story that points to Your Love. Our story is Your
Story and we will tell it to others for eternity. “I love you too, Jesus.” Amen.
What a God we have! And how fortunate we are to have Him, this Father of our
Master Jesus! Because Jesus was raised from the dead, we’ve been given a
brand-new life and have everything to live for, including a future in heaven—and
the future starts now! God is keeping careful watch over us and the future. The
Day is coming when you’ll have it all—life healed and whole.
