From a very young age, I remember praying to Jesus daily and often. I asked Him “into my heart” at the age of four. I knew He was always with me and went wherever I went. I knew He resided in me, not a church building. Several years ago, however, I could only pray one word, “Help!” I’d whisper or think this word in fear and confusion. I didn’t think God could or would hear me because my situation kept getting worse. But, He did hear me and He did Help me in ways that have forever changed the way I see Jesus, His Word, His Spirit and the world I live in. He is indescribably powerful and absolutely full of love for His kids.
Jesus’ disciple, Matthew, wrote about prayer: The world is full of so-called prayer warriors who are prayer-ignorant. They’re full of formulas and programs and advice, peddling techniques for getting what you want from God. Don’t fall for that nonsense. This is your Father you are dealing with, and He knows better than you what you need. With a God like this loving you, you can pray very simply. Our Father in heaven, Reveal Who You are. Set the world right; Do what’s best—as above, so below. Keep up alive with three square meals. Keep us forgiven with you and forgiving others. Keep us safe from ourselves and the Devil. You’re in charge! You can do anything You want! You’re ablaze in beauty! Yes. Yes. Yes. Matthew 6:7-8 MSG
Lord, I love you, God—
you make me strong.
God is bedrock under my feet,
the castle in which I live,
my rescuing knight.
My God—the high crag
where I run for dear life,
hiding behind the boulders,
safe in the granite hideout.
I sing to God, the Praise-Lofty,
and find myself safe and saved.
Psalm 18:1-3 MSG
