When the Horrific Happens

In the aftermath of the multiple mass shootings across our country perpetrated by (alleged) private citizens, this is a tough devotion to write.

My prayers, thoughts, and heart go out to the survivors of these horrible attacks. I weep for the lives that were lost in these senseless tragedies. I weep for those who experienced the shootings and survived. I weep for the families and friends who were directly affected by these horrific acts. The survivors will now have to deal with the trauma of this life altering event.

I weep for our country...how divided we are. Hateful and angry and lost. Forgetting who we are and on what principles the United States of America was founded on.

Human beings can perform such evil acts. One of my family member’s recently spoke with a man who said, “If I had a button to wipe out the entire human race including myself, I’d push it now.” I get where that man is coming from. Mankind has a HUGE problem and we need a SOLUTION. “One problem equals One Solution. His Name is Jesus.” (JDN)

It all began when Adam and Eve disobeyed God in the Garden of Eden. They had no idea of the horrific consequences following the choice they made. But, God knew. And in His Love, He had a plan. He always does. He executed His Plan and He is still saving people today. Nothing catches Him by surprise.

God didn’t force the shooters to do what they did. He doesn’t force anyone to do anything. The responsibility of what the shooters did rests on their shoulders.

There is hope though. One day soon, God will make all things right and new again. He promises it in His Word. Our job, in the meantime, is to love Him first and then love our neighbor right where we are. God does the rest. Do you believe that? It’s your choice.

Father God, oh how my heart aches! Please comfort those who are hurting as a direct result of these shootings. Please help law enforcement mete out justice and the people in power to have wisdom to implement laws that will help prevent future shootings. In Jesus‘ Name. Amen.

But for you who fear My Name, the Sun of Righteousness will rise with healing in His Wings, and you will be set free, leaping for joy like calves let out to pasture. On the day when I act, you will tread upon the wicked as if they were dust under your feet,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. Malachi 4:1-3
