Faint-Heart vs. Brave-Heart

While hiking the cliffs in Stonehaven, Scotland, to explore Dunnottar Castle, I came across views that took my breath away. It was a Sunday morning and I praised God, marveling at His Creation. How much He must love us, to make such a beautiful planet.

Earlier that week, I’d studied the account of Peter walking on the water during a fierce storm in the Sea of Galilee. Verse 31 particularly jumped out at me and I’d been meditating on it all week: Jesus didn’t hesitate. He reached down and grabbed his hand. Then he said, “Faint-heart, what got into you?” Matthew 14:31 (MSG)

As the terrain became steeper and more treacherous, I felt fear. “What in the world am I doing here?” But, I pressed on and my efforts were greatly rewarded. It has now become one of the most memorable days during my trip abroad. That evening, eating dinner with my landlady, I shared where I’d explored that weekend. She said, “Lisa, you know that Braveheart was filmed there, right?” NO, I had no idea! It wasn’t on any of the brochures or maps. Coincidence? Nope, only God!

Father God, during this season of learning to be brave hearted and strong, again, You surprised me. It was no coincidence I latched onto that one passage of Scripture and thought about it on that particular morning at that particular site. Thank You for weaving a beautiful tapestry out of every life season. Amen.

...for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure. Philippians 2:13
