Conquering Fear

Years ago, my flying instructor turned off the plane’s engines and said, “Okay, Lisa, what do you do? You’ve lost engine power, and you need to land this plane without it.” Panicked, I answered, “Give me the barf bag, please!” And promptly threw up. This happened two more times before I was able to overcome my fear and do what was necessary when the pilot turned off the engines.

Recently, through a series of Spirit led circumstances, I traveled to Scotland for 30 days. As I got into my rented car, I whispered, “Stay to the left, stay to the left!” Even though I stayed to the left, within 15 minutes, my car got clipped on a roundabout. It scared me and I thought, “Whoa, I’m WAY out of my comfort zone.”

Fast forward two weeks, and I had to drive back into the city to catch a train. I knew I’d have to drive on a couple of roundabouts...and promptly threw up.

But, I wanted to conquer this fear and asked God to help me. He has a sense of humor because I drove through twelve (yes 12) roundabouts on the way to the train station! And I didn’t wreck. Thank You God!

Heavenly Father, thank You for helping me to be brave and strong in You. Thank You for teaching me to trust You no matter where I am. For I the Lord your God, hold your right hand; it is I Who say to you, “Fear not, I am the One Who helps you.” Isaiah 41:13
