What's In A Name?

It’s funny how different words have different meanings. For example, while visiting Sarasota, Florida; brightly colored buses with “SCAT” (Sarasota County Area Transportation) written on the side made me laugh. Of course, for us Northeastern folks, “scat” means animal waste!

That example made me think about how the name of Jesus Christ is used in different ways. For some people, He is the hope of salvation and eternal life. For others, the Name of Jesus Christ is only blasphemous profanity.

John Gleason writes:

“Blasphemy, any profanity, is a way of saying, ‘Pay attention to ME. I am the one who is saying something important. I am the one who is upset. Just listen to the way I’m expressing it. It is MY anger, MY distress, MY pain, or MY feeling of whatever kind, that is important. Listen to ME.’ How I feel is so important that it is making me say THIS!”

For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers….II Timothy 3:2

Dear Jesus, many people don’t think of You as a real Person Who really loves them, Who really died for their sins and Who really rose from the dead. Please God, in Your Son’s Name, and with the Holy Spirit’s help, used this devotion to draw people to Your Heart. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

As surely as I live, says the Lord, someday every knee will bow before Me; and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord! Romans 14:11 (That means everyone!)
