Rest in Jesus

Sometimes, severe thunderstorms disrupt our carefully constructed lives. These brutal storms can tear things down in ways that hut us deeply and the aftermath appears irretrievably broken.

Matthew 8:24-27 records:

And behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being covered with the waves; but Jesus Himself was asleep. And they came to Him and woke Him, saying, “Save us, Lord; we are perishing!” He said to them, “Why are you afraid, you men of little faith?” Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the sea, and it became perfectly calm. The men were amazed, and said, “What kind of a man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?”

Notice how Jesus was resting in the midst of a life threatening storm. The disciples thought He wasn’t aware of what was going on and how dare He sleep when their lives were in danger?! This story reminds me that it’s a much better choice to keep going to the bottom of the boat to “rest with Jesus.” No matter what debris may be flying overhead, keep resting in Abba. He is famous for putting pieces of broken lives back together in ways that are beautiful and bring glory to His Name!

Father God, You allow really difficult situations to come into everyone’s life. But, through it all, You remind us You are in control and You’ve Got This! Help me to quit striving so hard to be in control and to let You control things. I don’t need to worry or fear, because I can trust You with my life no matter what. Amen.

“Good Good Father”

by Chris Tomlin

...I've heard the tender whisper of love in the dead of night

And You tell me that You're pleased

And that I'm never alone

You're a Good, Good Father

It's Who You are... And I'm loved by You
